The Anne Frank Humanitarian Award Program, sponsored by the Hebrew Congregation of Chautauqua, is an outstanding opportunity to honor an exceptional, deserving upstander from your school who is making an extra effort to better the world. Students in Chautauqua County are passionate, respectful, empathetic and inclusive. Their contributions in our county range from feeding the hungry to supporting refugees who are new to the region. They have created nonprofits to address specific needs and raise funds for many charities and organizations throughout our community. They are kind to their classmates, and reach out to include those on the fringes. They are students who go above and beyond to help, advocate and serve.
Use the link below to nominate a deserving student in your district. These nominations must remain confidential and must be completed by a students’ teacher, administrator, or staff member. All nominations must be received no later than May 9, 2025
The Anne Frank Humanitarian Award: Recognizing Upstanders Among Us
2025 Anne Frank Humanitarian Award Winner Kayamara Strudwick
This award honors one exceptional student in Chautauqua County who is actively working to better the world they live in — and Kayamara exemplifies that mission in every way.
Nominated by her teacher, Mrs. Rowe-Baehr, Kayamara is described as “a worker, an athlete, a scholar, a leader, a volunteer — someone who makes an impression in every room she enters.” Her leadership, compassion, and integrity have left a lasting mark on all of us, especially through her powerful presence at our student symposium and during our work in Washington, D.C.
She leads with insight, strength, and clarity. As Kayamara wisely says:
“Kindness goes a long way … never intentionally navigate the world in blind ignorance. Standing up for people and the injustices they go through will help continue to change the world.”
We are honored to recognize Kayamara as a true change maker. The future is brighter because of her.
